About Us

SpiritHorse at Freedom Ranch is a nonprofit organization that provides equine therapy and other programs to children and adults with varying degrees of abilities and disabilities. Our programs help develop self-esteem, and our therapy curriculum is built to improve both cognitive and physical development.

As a certified SpiritHorse International Facility, our curriculum is based on research that shows how the movement of a horse in circles and other specific patterns releases chemicals in the rider’s brain that can help neurotransmitters reconnect – often resulting in improved balance, first words or even full sentences by the rider.

Freedom Ranch itself boasts more than 60 acres of forest, rolling fields, natural ponds and streams, offering a peaceful and serene backdrop for our events and programs. Each of our horses have been selected for their gentle spirits, and they all react positively to the reactions as well as the unexpected noises and behaviors that come with working with emotionally or physically challenged riders.

Our Story

Inspired by the Catoosa County Schools’ 2009 Equestrian Special Olympics Training and Horse Show, Ginger Brown sought a program that could help children and adults with special needs. After some research, Brown traveled with Jeremiah Moore and Joy Giles to Corinth, Tex. to train and test with SpiritHorse International.

The trio embraced the philosophy and curriculum centered around equine-assisted health and therapy. In 2010, Brown established SpiritHorse at Eagles Rest Ranch in Flintstone, Ga. as a place of healing and hope before relocating to its forever home at Freedom Ranch in 2017.
